How to improve your at home workouts

It’s been several months now of working from home and, hopefully for most of you, working out from home. Some gyms have reopened in most cities, but if you’re finding yourself hesitant to go back to the gym, here are some tips to keep your home workouts enjoyable and sustainable.

  1. Create a space free of distractions. The best thing about going to a gym is that it is NOT at home where there are a million distractions i.e. kids and pets running around and a long to-do list staring you in the face. So how can you get that same experience working out from home? Create a no interruption work out space. We’ve all been finding a place in our home to sit and work remotely and the same thing applies for our workouts! Find a space in your home where you can set things up. Even if the space is regularly used for more than just your workouts, make sure that it is yours and yours only when it is time for your workout.

  2. Don’t multitask. It’s tempting to tackle that to-do list since you’re already at home right? Why not cook dinner in between circuits or finish your squat set as you fold laundry. What about push-ups while on a conference call? NO. Keep your focus as you work out same as you would while you’re at the gym. Think of your workouts as “me time” and not just another task to check off your list.

  3. Wear your favorite workout gear. I know you’re probably not trying to impress many people while you’re working out at home, but didn’t you love putting on your cute, matching workout outfit to head to the gym? If it makes you feel good, then do it! Every little bit of motivation helps, right?

  4. Find a virtual coach, trainer, and/or class. If you’re someone who loved going to your Monday morning Spin, Wednesday evening Zumba, and Saturday Yoga, you can still find virtual opportunities and have that sense of community and motivating instruction. There is a lot of free stuff out there so do your research first. Not everyone is a qualified instructor so in my opinion, it’s best to go with a trusted source like the Obe Fitness. They have a workout style for almost everyone and many instructors to choose from. And make sure you follow me on social media to stay up to date with my virtual and outdoor classes!
